Penny ChristensenI first contacted Bikewise in the term 3 holidays last year – in despair. My two sons, Dylan 11 and Patrick 8, could not yet ride a bike. Dylan, my oldest, has Dyspraxia – a coordination disability and years of trying to get him to ride proved frustrating and uneventful for all concerned. Because it was difficult for Dylan, Patrick suffered. It was just too hard to get them both out and now they were physically too big for me to teach them. Solution: find someone and pay them to teach my kids...like finding someone to teach your child to drive a car! After a google search I found the BikeWise website.
Paddy took Dylan and George took Patrick for an individual 2 hour lesson. Patrick was up an riding in no time and he just couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. He is so delighted that he can ride like his friends. Dylan was more challenging however, Paddy was able to make Dylan independent enough for me to take over – which I have since. Dylan was also proficient enough to go for a bike ride with his school around lake burley griffin in Canberra 4 weeks after his lesson! He too was delighted to be able to join in. Please tell Paddy that Dylan no longer hesitates with his starts. He rides at his own pace but that’s just him. I do, however, regret buying him a mountain bike instead of a commuter-style bike which might have helped him at least cover more distance with the larger wheels.
The kids are now wanting a pair of knicks and gloves each because they are complaining about sore bums after 45mins of riding and we all want to ride for longer!
