Lead Instructors / Directors.
Jo
The feather in Jo’s Cyclist Instructor ‘training hat’ is the British National Standard accreditation acquired through the London training organisation CTUK. She worked as an instructor there throughout 2007/8 and since returning to Australia has completed the Cycling Australia ‘Skill Cycle’ coaching accreditation and the AustCycle course.
Patrick
As well as being similarly accredited as Jo in both the UK and Australia Patrick has degrees in Town Planning and Primary School Teaching- the field he was working in prior to starting BikeWise.
His cycling background is ridiculously extensive having cycled for transport (and often for a living) all his life. Some of his hi-lights: Twice National Penny Farthing Champion!(seriously); 10 years working as a Bicycle courier in the Perth and Sydney CBD areas; “serious” cyclist having taken his sport to Europe (purely amateur) and South America (semi-pro); Club Champion of Randwick Botany Cycling Club; He has completed five 24hour mountain bike races (3xsolo) and has cycle toured for months at a time in 15 countries or so; He is currently in love with Bicycle Polo and Jo. He likes chess but doesn’t feel very good about his ability.
Support Instructors
Support instructors are extensively experienced cyclists who have completed theoretical and practical training and assessment. Working in a support instructor role alongside a fully accredited BikeWise instructor is a pre-requisite to lead instructor status
Dion
Dion is a provisionally accredited BikeWise Instructor well on the way to Lead Instructor status. Aside from his BikeWise credentials has Cycling Australia Coaching accreditation as well as having successfully completed the AustCycle instructor course. Outside of Cycle training he has worked as a policy advisor with the NZ Department of Indigenous Affairs and currently runs and operates a bicycle courier business in the Sydney CBD in partnership with George. Dion will more than likely thrash you at Chess.
George
George is a provisionally accredited BikeWise Instructor. He has several years experience riding in the Sydney CBD as a courier as well as being a lifelong commuter cyclist. He currently runs his own courier company in partnership with Dion as well as a thriving second hand book stall. George will probably beat you at Chess.
