What bike should I get?
We get asked this question a lot! There is no one answer, it all depends on the style of riding you want to do. However, we can certainly give some more general advice.
Firstly, we recommend a bike that is comfortable for you; how do you feel sitting on it? Upright and relaxed or bent forward and speedy. Whatever position you choose, it’s important to find one that’s comfortable for you.
Always take a bike for a test ride. All good bike shops allow you to do this. How do you know how a bike rides unless you take it for a spin?
Ultimately, there are lots of bikes to choose from. We have some suggestions as to which type of bike makes for a great commuting bike. Here’s a few tips on what to look for:
A fairly upright positioning
Don’t always go for the cheapest option
If you live on a fairly flat terrain (e.g. Sydney’s inner west) then you can get away with fewer gears, even enjoy the simplicity of a single speed bicycle (one gear).
Ordinary flat pedals (not pedals which make you ‘clip in’)
